Jaffna Fort - The Fortress of Strength

Jaffna Fort is a magnificent architectural piece that was built by the Portuguese with reference to Portuguese architectural elements between the years of 1618 and 1625. It is located close to Gurunagar. Formerly known as the "Fortress of Our Lady of Miracles of Jafanapato" during the colonial period of Portuguese, it gets its name from a shrine that was situated close to the Virgin Mary.
